Individuals who knew the Food, Beverage and Tobacco Senior Staff Association (FOBTOB) at the beginning of the decade, often wondered what could be the secret ingredient that resulted in the association’s complete make-over by the end of the decade.

Of course, that secret ingredient is no secret at all but the outstanding leadership of FOBTOB in the last five years by Comrade Quadri Olaleye-led-administration that has served selflessly and transparently.

Comrade Olaleye, who took over the mantle of leadership of the association in 2015, was given an association which like many others, had limited funds with which to run.

But unlike any other leader, he, undaunted by that challenge, decided to stir the course of the association to a revenue generating one as opposed to a ‘dues’ consuming one.

In the five-year period of his stewardship, Comrade Olaleye has been able to oversee and complete three magnificent, money-making projects on behalf of the association.

These projects include the students’ hostels built in Kwara State University in 2017, Auchi Polytechnic in 2018 and the most recent being, the 42-roomed hostel built for Federal University of Oye Ekiti students which was commissioned on the 16th of October, 2020 in Ekiti State.

At the commissioning, members of the association and invited guests were full of praises for Comrade Olaleye’s exemplary leadership and selflessness, and even called on the government of the day to emulate him.

The governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency Kayode, Fayemi, who was ably represented at the commissioning by his Senior Special Adviser on Labour Matters, Chief Oluyemi Esan, said, “His Excellency was not surprised that crop of leadership have lived above board to achieve this wonderful feat”.

Oba (Sir) Michael Oluwole Ademolaju Adugbole III, the royal father of the day was equally not short of praise for Comrade Olaleye’s strength, energy and moral upstanding in leading and turning the association around.

How to metamorphose an association from a struggling one to one that accomplishes multi-million naira projects without taking loans, while still fulfilling every of its responsibilities, is  a question only the President of FOBTOB, Comrade Quadri Olaleye can answer.

The answer according to him, is to avoid corruption because corruption is the only problem Nigeria has and it has taken away the joy of the citizenry.
