The Chairman of All Progresive Congress (APC) Congress Appeal Committee, Engineer Ife Oyedele on Thursday assured that anomalies arising from the party congresses would be resolved.
Speaking when hundreds of APC Registration officers from all wards across the state stormed the party zonal headquarters, Ibadan with reports of the congresses in their respective wards, he promised to look into all the grievances and make appropriate recommendations.
Scores of members of defunct Congress of Progressives Change (CPC) and their counterparts from defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in APC have stormed the party's zonal headquarters to lodge various protests concerning the last ward and council congresses of the party.
The aggrieved party members essentially complained of marginalisation in the state APC and alleged fraudulent conduct of the party’s last ward and local government congresses, calling for fresh congresses that will take care of all the three political parties whose members formed APC.
The defunct CPC members were led by one time party’s governorship candidate in the state, Barrister Adebayo Shittu. Barrister Shittu along with Mr. Sulaiman Oyaremi(defunct CPC state chasirman)
jointly presented a petition before members of the APC Appeal committee where they made their demands known.
The demands include total cancellation of the ward and local government congresses held on the 5th and 12th April,2014 respectively and conduct of fresh and ‘’properly ‘’ held congresses on new sequential dates,’’proper and more equitable /more inclusive consensus sharing of all party positions such that the erstwhile CPC members in Oyo state would be granted positions on the basis of the following formular (a)two slots out of the five major offices(viz;Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Woman leader and Youth leader) for each ward, (b)six slots out of the remaining twenty-one executive positions, (c)two slots out of the five local government delegates and (d)two slots out of five state delegates.’’
Barrister Shittu had earlier chronicled his plight and that of other defunct CPC members in his group, in the hands of state APC concerning the the two congresses , the development which he said, initially made them to consider the option of legal action against the party(APC) but which was put on hold when the group was told that the Appeal committee would listen to their complaints.
Barrister Shittu and his group insisted that they would not partake in the state congress of the party until their demands are met.
In the same vein, defunct ANPP members in the APC, among whom, its erstwhile state publicity secretary, Sola Oshuntoye also kicked against the conduct of the APC ward and local government congresses, insisting they were not done in accordance with the party’s guidelines.
