The Senate has been advised to withdraw the recommendation asking for the sack of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal, to save itself from embarrassment.
According to ceoafrica, the Grand Initiative for Political Development (GIPD) in Kaduna faulted the process that led to the call for the resignation of the SGF, saying it rather painted the Senate as desperate to get at the executive arm of government.
Coordinator of the group, Ado Sidi Gumel, said while on the face of it, it appeared that the Senate was eager to hold public office holders accountable, it jumbled up a lot of issues in the process.
He said this was clear from how the Senate tried to manipulate the issue of the resignation of the SGF from Rholavision to suit its narrative, which would not augur well for the country’s democracy, as it decried that the SGF was not invited by the Senate to state his own side of the story throughout the period the Senator Shehu Sani-led committee investigated the matter.
“It is proven fact that the SGF resigned his appointment with Rholavision shortly after he was appointed and there was no way he could have been part of the firm, at the time the contract was awarded, which makes it ridiculous for the SGF to be linked with any financial dealing that has to do with the company as everybody knows that such responsibilities cease with resignation from a firm,” he said.
