The Nigerian Senate on Thursday rejected the confirmation of Mr Ibrahim Magu as the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes commission (EFCC).

The Senate reached the decision after an executive session during which it considered a security report, which contained alleged damning information on Magu.

It, however, confirmed four other members of EFCC’s governing board nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a tweet, the Senate said: “Following the security report before it, Senate therefore rejected the confirmation of the nomination of Mr Ibrahim Magu as Chairman EFCC. The Senate confirmed the nomination of the other four members of the EFCC and referred them for further security screening.”

Earlier, Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, and Senator Dino Melaye (APC Kogi West) were engaged in a war of words over modalities for screening Magu.
