The Minister for Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, has denied allegations that his actions led to the non-declaration of results in Ikwerre and Emohua Local government Areas.

According to ceoafrica, Amaechi said the Independent National Electoral Commission should be allowed to announce results when it is ready as Ikwerre and Emohua are two of eight LGAs that constitute Rivers East senatorial district.

While the results of six LGAs have been announced, with PDP winning all, there are uncertainties over the results of Ikwerre and Emohua LGAs as Governor Nyesom Wike and the Peoples Democratic Party accused Amaechi of using the Army and the Police to hijack Ikwerre results on Saturday night.

For Emohua, the governor and his spokesperson, Franklin Oraye, separately said that the military had taken over the collation centre to “concoct fake results” in which they said Amaechi, the APC leader, is being aided by military and policemen with INEC to tamper with original results from the two LGAs in order to overturn PDP’s lead in the six LGAs already announced.

But in reaction, the transport minister through his spokesperson, David Iyiofor said the allegations against him were false, stating that INEC should be accorded the liberty to announce results freely, saying that Governor Nyesom Wike has no right to decide when INEC should release results.
