The running mate to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has challenged anyone accusing him of corruption to provide evidence, saying he has been active in politics since 1987 without being arrested for corruption.
Amaechi spoke on Friday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he maintained that he was not corrupt and questioned why no one had been able to establish a corruption case against him despite his long career in public service.
The former Minister of Transportation also alleged that corruption under President Bola Tinubu’s administration is more pronounced than it was under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Corruption then was not as bad as this. You know the difference; if you are corrupt, you hide it, but these people are not hiding it. It’s so glaring,” Amaechi said.
He added that his academic background in Literature, rather than accounting, meant he was not trained in financial management.
“Have you asked yourself why they are finding it difficult to arrest me and I have been in politics since 1987? I read Literature. I’m not an accountant; I don’t know how to keep money.
“I am waiting for the person that will prove that I am corrupt. Have you asked why they are finding it difficult to arrest me? And I’ve been in politics since 1987,” he said.
