The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Zanna M. Ibrahim, PSC, has stated that objectivity and accuracy should be the basis of information reportage by member of the press, rather than spreading propaganda calculated to cause mischief.

This was obtained in a Press Release signed by the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Zanna M. Ibrahim and made available to CEOAfrica. According to the CP, the statement was made in response to an online publication made by the Sahara Reporters on Thursday 10th November, 2016, captioned “Delta State Commissioner of Police Frees Two Policemen Arrested for Kidnapping.”

Noting that some clarifications were made on the 7th of November, 2016, through a press release in respect of the two policemen alleged to be involved in kidnapping, the Police Commissioner explained that the two policemen are in custody and are already facing disciplinary actions for professional misconduct.

The CP emphasized that two police officers under trial, Mr David Udubrae and Mr Umukoro Efe Daniel are being tried in orderly room at ‘B’ Division Asaba by CSP Dumnamara, Gabrale and the proceedings of the orderly room shall be reviewed by his office.

The Delta State Police Boss noted that he should have been contacted by Sahara Reporters for further clarifications on the case, rather than the PPRO, SP Celestina Kalu, who was on annual leave at the time of the incident.

Mr Zanna M. Ibrahim maintained that the Command has always had a mutually beneficial, transparent and cordial relationship with the press and he expresses his wish to maintain such relations. He reiterated that erring police officers will not be pardoned or shielded under his watch.
