The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, said he will not interfere in the politics of commercial drivers if elected governor.

Akeredolu, who said this yesterday at a meeting with members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area, promised to give them the freedom needed to operate.

According to CEOAFRICA’s source, Daily trust, the APC candidate, who was represented by his running mate, Agboola Ajayi and the director general of his campaign platform, Victor Olabimtan, said as a true democrat, the incessant government interference in the activities of the commercial drivers and other unions was worrisome.

He said, “I want to promise you that a vote for me is a vote for your freedom. I love freedom and I won’t do anything to infringe on the freedom of anyone. If you support me and I triumph, I won’t select your union leaders for you.

“They are your leaders; they are to represent you, not me, therefore, you should be the one to elect those who you want. I will make sure democracy is entrenched in your union.

“I won’t muddle your leaders against you. I won’t cage their conscience to act against you. Your union leaders should be able to speak truth to me when, God forbid, I am not doing well and also praise me when I am doing well. That is the kind of leadership I want for you.”
