RECESSION: World Bank, IMF can’t help you solve recession, Igbinedion University VC tells FG

 Eghosa Osaghae, Vice Chancellor, Igbinedion University, Okada has said that Nigeria is blessed with experts that can proffer solution to the current economic recession confronting the country.

According to CEOAFRICA source Business day reports that the vice chancellor who made the remark in Benin City however noted that the country was not marking progress in economic development as a result of over dependent on International

He also blamed the country problems on alleged little or no regard for expertise and specialization by those in position of authority.

“The problem we have today in Nigeria is that those who govern us have very little regard for expertise and specialization. That is why we are still backward and find it difficult to make progress as a nation,”

“When you have a problem as a nation you called on your expert for solution but we have a recession at hand and where are the professors of economy, they should be able to provide solution because that is why the nation invest in them,”

“But the Federal Government is not looking up to them for solutions rather they are going to IMF, World Bank as well as looking the way of people who want the country indebted. We have to use our expert if we must make progress as a nation”, he said.

Osaghae who is a professor of comparative politics, however called on the federal government to have a rethink and seek help from the nation’s expert rather than looking outside the country.

He opined that nation’s can only develop, make progress and compete effectively with other nations in the world if her education sector is adequately funded in line with the United Nation minimum benchmark.

 

He explained that Nigeria education sector is doing well with the coming of private institutions, adding that what is currently lacking was inadequate funding which he said is the bane of the sector.

The first private university in Nigeria, Vice chancellor also observed that those who find themselves in position of authority always considered themselves to know it all and as such failed to seek the help of expert in seeking for solution to a problem.
