Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the society for peace studies and practice, Professor Isaac Albert, has revealed that 30 per cent of resoutrces stolen are from Nigeria.

Professor History and Peace consultant in Africa  added that “corruption is not only when you steal money, it is also when you receive money for service not rendered. No country is incorrupt, but we make much of noise about corruption rather than tackle it.”

He stated this at the 10th international conference and general assembly of the society for peace studies and practice, which held August 15-17th  at Grand hotel, Asaba, Delta State.

The theme of the conference is curbing corruption and building sustainable peace.

In a welcome address by the president of SPSP Dr. Willie Eselebor, he thanked the invited guest for taking time out of their  busy schedule to be part of the conference. He said the Society For Peace Studies And Practice is well positioned to help Nigeria and Africa in curbing corruption and building sustainable peace.

While delivering his keynote address, Professor Sola Akinrinade of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) anti- corruption academy, Keffi, Nigeria, stated that “There’s an active fight against corruption, but what happens when President Muhammad Buhari leaves office? We need to address the systematic problems.

“Imagine a situation where an average Nigerian who steals another person’s property is caught and prosecuted and eventually given stiff measures of punishment whereas an already rich Nigerian steals public funds, spends the money lavishly, caught and prosecuted afterwards and asked by law court to return some of the stolen money.

The chief host of the event, Delta State governor, Sen Ifeanyi Okowa, represented by the state’s Head of Service, Mr Reginard Byoko, commended the organising committee for their initiative in organising such programme at a time where the fight against corruption is in top gear.

He charged everybody to be agent of anti-corruption so as to make the country great again.
