The Directors-general of the National Institute for Legislative Studies (NILS), Dr. Ladi Hamalai on Monday called for renewed emphasis on knowledge acquisition and capacity development for legislative support staff.
She assured that despite the harsh global economic reality, NILS will continue to do its best in providing trainings for the legislature.
Hamalai stated this while receiving members of the executive council of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, National Assembly Chapter, in her office in Abuja.
She stated that the staff of the National Assembly play a very critical role in ensuring optimum and effective performance of the legislature. As a result, there is the need to avail themselves of the new dynamics and trends in Parliamentary administration through the various programmes of the National Institute for Legislative Studies.
Dr. Hamalai urged the executive to sensitize their members on the importance and relevance of training for self-improvement and skill development. While urging them to put the nation first, in service to their fatherland,
Earlier, the chairman of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) Comrade Bature Musa, while commending the D.G for the opportunity given to National Assembly staff who are currently undergoing the National Institute for Legislative Studies Post Graduate programmes, decried the low level of knowledge among some of its members.
About 54 staff of the National Assembly are currently undergoing the NILS-University Benin Post Graduate programmes in Parliamentary Administration, Legislative Studies and Legislative Drafting.
