Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has faulted President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the rising cost of living and persistent insecurity, saying Nigerians should not be forced to continue enduring economic hardship and fear.
Atiku, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, said households across the country were struggling to afford basic necessities, while the threat of kidnappings and attacks had heightened concerns about personal safety.
He made the remarks in a post on his X handle on Wednesday, urging eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the forthcoming elections.
“My fellow Nigerians, young and old, I know the pain you are carrying,” Atiku wrote.
He highlighted the difficulties confronting families, noting that many parents were struggling to feed their children, while pensioners faced difficult choices between purchasing food and paying for medication.
The former vice president also lamented that many young Nigerians, despite their efforts to earn a living, were finding it increasingly difficult to cope with rising transport fares, house rents and other essential expenses.
Atiku further raised concerns about insecurity, saying the prevalence of kidnappings and attacks had left many families anxious about the safety of their loved ones.
“No family should have to face hunger and insecurity at the same time. We cannot allow this hardship and fear to become the future our children inherit,” he said.
Calling for greater participation in the electoral process, the ADC chieftain urged eligible Nigerians to collect and safeguard their PVCs, describing them as instruments through which citizens could express their preferences and seek political change.
“Bola made life expensive. I will work to make life affordable again and restore the security every Nigerian deserves,” he stated.
Atiku urged Nigerians of different age groups to unite in working towards a country where citizens could live in safety, enjoy economic relief and provide better opportunities for future generations.
