Nigeria has been awarded the silver medal of the 4x100m women relay race of the 2008 Olympic Games held in Beijing.
Nigeria had won the bronze medal of the event.
However, following the ban imposed on Russia for substance abuse by its athletes, Nigeria’s standing on the race’s medals table was moved up.
Russia came first in the race, while Belgium was second.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the decision on Wednesday in Brazil, venue of the on-going Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Nigeria was represented in the race by Franca Idoko, Gloria Kemasuode, Halimat Ismaila and Oludamola Osayomi.
The team came second in a time of 43.08 seconds.
Brazil, which came fourth, has also moved up the medals table to third.
