Irked by the incessant attacks by hoodlums in Lagos State, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr.  Ibrahim Idris would be making an emergency visit to the state to ensure better protection of lives and property.

The visit which may last for two days, will have the headquarters of the Nigeria Police literally relocate to Kam Salem House, at Obalende, in Lagos State where the IGP office annex is located.

It was gathered that the IGP was perturbed by reports of insecurity in Lagos and the fact that the police are almost helpless.

The visit is the first since he assumed office as the nations’ 19th indigenous police high command boss.

It was gathered that the IGP, wants officers and men of the command to rise up to their responsibilities of protecting lives and property.

Citizens are almost losing their trust in Lagos and Ogun States police command after many residents were killed by gunmen who invaded Ishawo and Igbolomu area of Ikorodu.

“Since that attack, killings and kidnappings have continued unabated. Why is it that immediately after these attacks, the military are called to intervene and protect residents? What it means is that the people have lost trust in the police. When they killed people in Ikorodu area, it was military that took over security of the area, when they invaded Igando, it was military presence that gave residents the courage to return back to their homes. A first class Oba in Lagos is still in the hands of his abductors and you think residents are happy with the police? Police should wake up and justify their earnings.” A resident complained.

Lagos State police spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmos, while confirming the Inspector General of Police visit said gunmen had been raining terror in Fatoki, Obadore and Egan, in Igando area of Lagos, carting away property belonging to some of the residents of the area.

The invasion triggered a sporadic shoot-out between the suspected militants and policemen from Igando Division.

The area under attack is about five minutes away from Iba Town, where the monarch, the Oniba of Ibaland, Oba Yushau Goriola Oseni, was kidnapped about one week ago. The community presently under attack is bordered by water, which made it prone to attacks from the dreaded gunmen who habour in the surrounding creeks.
