The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has paid a condolence visit to the presidential running mate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, following the death of his mother, Mrs. Mary Oduah Amaechi.
Obi visited Amaechi and his wife, Dame Judith Amaechi, to express his sympathy and solidarity with the family during their period of mourning, in a gesture widely seen as transcending political differences.
Mrs. Mary Oduah Amaechi passed away on Thursday at the age of 89.
In a statement issued by Amaechi's media office, the late matriarch was described as "a cherished matriarch who held her family together in love, peace and unity."
The statement further noted that she was "a community women leader and Christian leader whose belief and faith in God was firm and resolute."
According to the media office, Mrs. Amaechi was widely admired and respected within her community for her compassion, generosity, and unwavering commitment to supporting others.
"She will be fondly remembered for her warmth, kindness, and enduring legacy of service to humanity," the statement added.
Obi's visit underscores a tradition of empathy and mutual respect among political leaders during moments of personal loss, despite differences in political affiliation.
