President Mohammadu Buhari, has finally signed the 2016 Appropriation Bill, to formally allow for the full implementation of the national budget.

Buhari assented to the bill at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, on Friday.

Before the final signing of the budget into law, controversies had followed after the budget was laid before a joint session of the National Assembly on December 22, 2015.

The argument over the budget between the presidency and national assembly, was as a result of what was termed alleged "padding" of the budget.

The controversy became thicker after the national assembly unanimously approved the budget estimates of N6.06 trillion against the initial N6.08 trillion, after which it was transmitted to the presidency only with the highlight.

However, President Buhari declined to sign the budget then for failure of the national assembly to attach its full details.

It was after the full details of the budget were made available, it became evident that the budget was padded, which made the executive arm of government to return it for a rework.

Having satisfied with the correction made, President Buhari, five months into the year, on Friday, in his office signed the budget into law.
