The ambition of the Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Uche Secondus, to retain his position in the forthcoming National Convention is seriously threatening the peace of the party in the South-South.

The zoning committee headed by Akwa Ibom State Governor, Emmanuel Udom, has retained the position of Deputy National Chairman in the South-South.

A chieftain of the party from the zone, however, disclosed that members from the zone are divided over the plan by the Rivers/Bayelsa axis to retain the position.

“Edo/Delta chapter of the party are pitched against the Rivers/Bayelsa chapter and this is because Secondus wants to retain the office even when it was proposed that Edo/Delta axis should produce the candidate for the office.

“We have resolved as a party to split the office into two, North and South for better spread and acceptability but a powerful governor from the South-South who wants to bring back Secondus wants to scatter our plans,” the source who doesn’t want to be named disclosed.

He expressed the hope that the differences would be resolved before May 14 given by the party leadership for every zone to resolve their differences.
