Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Makinde announced his presidential bid on Wednesday during a political rally held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, amid ongoing political realignments involving factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing supporters at the rally, the governor said: “I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, hereby announce my candidacy for the position of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The declaration came shortly after Makinde led the Taminu Turaki-led faction of the PDP in Oyo State to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the APM as part of a strategic alliance for the forthcoming elections.
Makinde and the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, signed the agreement on behalf of both parties.
Under the terms of the alliance, candidates aligned with the PDP faction seeking elective positions, including governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly seats, are expected to contest the 2027 elections under the APM platform instead of the PDP.
The development signals a significant shift in the political landscape ahead of the 2027 polls.
