TRAGEDY was averted yesterday afternoon as the Nigeria U-23 team (Dream Team), escaped a plane crash enroute to their training camp in Gambia.
Like the proverbial Cat with nine lives, the team led by Coach Samson Siasia cheated death in two seperate scenarios in Ghana.
According to the nff. com, the ARIK Air craft conveying the team from Lagos lost a tyre on landing at the Kotoka International Airport Accra.
Another airplane that was on ground in Accra, deployed to airlift the Nigeria U-23 national team equally developed a fault as the aircraft lost one of the engines on take-off, a situation that prompted the pilot to make a hasty landing.
It was gathered that another aircraft was provided by ARIK Air that eventually conveyed the Nigerian players and their delegation to Gambia through Dakar, Senegal.
The team successfully arrived their destination, Banjul for their 10 -day training camp ahead of the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations in Senegal.
FIFA U17 World Cup record goal scorer, Victor Osihmen, who was invited alongside three of his victorious teammates, joined up with the U23 team to The Gambia.
Meanwhile, Samson Siasia had dropped the trio of Kinsley Sokari, Nzube Anaezemba and Daniel Etor from the Dream Squad on grounds of indiscipline.
Siasia said the players were sent packing after they requested to leave the camp to go for their Club’s (Enyimba) last NPFL game of the season against Sunshine Stars in Lagos, even after he had told all the players they could not leave camp.
