Brown Ideye scored his first UEFA Champions League goal for Olympiakos as they defeated Dinamo Zagreb 1-0 at the Maksimir stadium in Zagreb on Tuesday night.
The Nigerian international struck in the 79th minute of the encounter in his third start to hand his side a second win in the competition after their famous victory against Arsenal at the Emirates stadium.
It was Ideye’s fifth goal in the competition since he made his debut with Dynamo Kiev in 2011.
However, the fate of Super Eagles stars Mikel Obi and Moses Simon in the UEFA Champions League hangs in the balance after their respective teams had mixed results in Tuesday’s round of matches across Europe.
At the NSK Olimpiyskiy stadium, Mikel watched from the bench as Chelsea drew goalless against Dynamo Kiev in their third group game.
Mikel has made one appearance in the competition this term and has made 56 appearances in the competition for Chelsea since making his debut in 2006.
With FC Porto defeating Maccabi Tel Aviv 2-0 at the Dragao stadium, Chelsea remain third with four points after three games.
At the Mestalla stadium, Moses Simon came on for the last six minutes of Gent’s 2-1 loss to Valencia. He replaced Thomas Matton in the 84th minute of the encounter for his third game in the competition.
In the Championship in England, Nigerian-born Chuba Akpom ended his 11-game goal drought when he scored his third goal for Hull City who spanked Ipswich Town 3-0 at the Kingston Communications Stadium.
It was Akpom’s 13th game of the season in the Championship.
His compatriot Sone Aluko replaced Abel Hernandez in the 68th minute of the encounter for his 11th appearance of the season.
