United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (?UNESCO), National Council for Adult Education (NCAE) in conjunction with National Mass Education Commission (NMEC) is to facilitate mass literacy and mass education in the North East Sub Region.

The UNESCO Regional Director Mr. Benoit Sossou, disclosed this while presenting fifty sets of laptop computers and other learning materials to the North East Community Model learning Centre in Bauchi yesterday.

The UNESCO Regional Director, represented by Dr. Safiya Iliyasu said Nigeria is currently in the process of curriculum reform to make literacy curriculum more responsive to the challenging needs of the twenty first century knowledge economy .?

She explained that, the survey recently conducted , Bauchi State is one of the state with high literacy rates in the country , due to insurgency activities in the North East Region and influx of IDP’s.?

In her remarks The Chairperson National Council for Adult Education, Professor Fatima Umar expressed confidence that the learning materials will assist towards improving mass literacy delivery in the region .?

Fatima called on women in the state to key into the literacy centre to enable them benefit from vocational training and literacy education introduced at the centre .

Also speaking the Provost Bauchi Institute of Education Professor Garba Ibrahim Kirfi , called for synergy amongst the stakeholders in the education sector to build the capacity of adult educators and facilitators towards optimum productivity .?

Professor Kirfi lauded the numerous supports and intervention of development partners for educational transformation process in the state.

Speaking Earlier, ? the Executive Secretary of the Bauchi state Agency for Mass Education , Hajiya Hauwa Tafawa Balewa,explained that the agency has intensified public mobilization campaign in the state , pointing out that recently Bauchi state government , National Mass Education Commission and UNESCO,had donated to the Agency modern teaching and learning facilities as part of effort to enhance literacy education in the state.
