
A Lagos High Court in Ikeja yesterday remanded in prison custody three persons accused of conspiring to rob First Bank of Nigeria Plc.
The accused persons are Offon Akpan, 25, Osanbie Sunday, 25 and Akeem Karim, 25.
According to the charge, the accused persons conspired to rob the bank at Adeniran Ogunsanya Street, Surulere area of Lagos.
The trio were arraigned before Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye on a 23-count charge of unlawful possession of firearms and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
One of the charges read: “Offon Akpan (m), Osanbie Sunday (m), Akeem Karim (m) and others at large on March 18, 2011 about 1300hrs at Adeniran Ogunsanya Street, Surulere, Lagos in the Lagos Judicial Division were found in possession of locally made pistol with intent to rob First Bank of Nigeria Plc, Adeniran Ogunsanya Street, Surulere branch, Lagos.”
State Counsel, Mr Akin George, informed the court that the offence was contrary to Section 403 (3) of the Criminal Code Law Cap 17, Vol. 2 Laws of Lagos State 2003.
However, when the charge was read to the accused persons, they pleaded not guilty.
After taking their plea, the judge adjourned the matter to November 24 and 25 for trial.
