Otjozondjupa Governor Otto Ipinge has recommended that a street in Otjiwarongo be named after athletics superstar Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

The 28 year-old Fraser-Pryce - a multiple 100m, 200m and sprint relay world and Olympic champion - was received by an excited group of school children in Otjiwarongo and regional office staff in the town and could hardly contain her joy at the gesture.

The street in question is Son Road which leads to Paresis sports stadium in Otjiwarongo. Fraser-Pryce thanked the Namibian people for their reception and kindness.

"I am really excited that I came here. I had heard so much about this beautiful country and I can attest to all the beauty I have seen since my arrival here," said the petite sprinter, who declared that she will return to Namibia again in future.

The governor assured Fraser-Pryce that Namibia is also her home and that she is always welcome to visit and encouraged the athlete to be a marketing ambassador for the country.

Fraser-Pryce reiterated her hopes of seeing Namibian athletes succeed on the international stage and that the younger generation should not stop working hard in order for their talents to help them realise their dreams.
