The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco) is set to resume the supply of electricity power tomorrow to many parts of the country connected to the national grid.

Several parts of the country experienced power blackout after Ubungo 1 and 11 power plants were switched off.

The gas-fired plants were turned off to allow connection of the new pipeline to new plants at Ubungo including the two plants.

Addressing reporters on Wednesday in Dar es Salaam, Tanesco Public Relations Manager, Mr Adrian Severin, said that from Friday (tomorrow), the country would have sufficient supply of power as the electricity will be produced by natural gas that is being transported from Mtwara.

"Currently, we have switched on the Ubungo I gas plant and today afternoon we will be flashing the Ubungo II gas plant as we have got permission from the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) which is concerned with all air affairs," he said.

He said the connection of the new natural gas pipeline went smoothly as the engineer managed to meet the deadline accordingly, hence ensured the increment of power supply all over the country.

"At first our plants were running below standard following the minimal amount of gas we was importing from songosongo gas, but effectively from Friday Tanzanians shall experience improvement on the power supply as we have an additional source," he assured.

Plants that were affected by the shutdown from last Monday were those supplied with gas from Songo Songo, including Songas (184MW), Ubungo Plant number 1 (100MW) and Tegeta plant (45MW).

For his part, the Ubungo gas plant manager, Eng Stanslaus Simbila, mentioned the plants to be supplied with gas from Mtwara as Symbion 112MW and Plant number 2, both situated at Ubungo and Kinyerezi 1 (150MW) as well.

"The exercise to connect natural gas pipeline from Mtwara to our plants went smoothly as we expected. We shall test the plant today and effectively from tomorrow the power supply shall resume as we announced," said the engineer.
