Pain was my daily bread on this journey but the more I felt it, the more I wanted more...it never crossed my mind to throw in the towel. Instead, I used the towel to wipe off sweat and carry on...today I'm proud to say I did it."

These are Botswana's finest 800m runner, Nijel 'Zoro' Amos' words after winning the Diamond League title in Brussels Friday (September 11).

"I have defended my Diamond League title; Glory to my above father; thanks for always being there Coach Jean Verster, manager Federico Rosa, Potch training group and big thank you all for such amazing support," he said.

Amos successfully defended his time, after finishing top of the log with 16 points, although he finished on position two clocking 1:45.25 after Polish Adam Kszczot with 1:45.12.

For Amos, it was not all about winning the Diamond League race on the day but sweet revenge against Bosnia and Herzegovina runner, Amel Tuka, who in July did not only shock Amos alone but Batswana in general after stealing a win from Zoro just at the finish line. Since that incident, the two never met until Friday in the Diamond League.

Amos made sure that Tuka tasted his own medicine when he relegated him to position three with 1:45.45.

However, he told our source that he enjoyed the race and was aiming to finish top three, given that he had to reserve energy for the African Games in Congo Brazzaville.

He said he was cheerful that he managed to defend the Diamond League title for the second consecutive time, adding that defending the title was his aim. He said there would be no celebration for him since he would be joining Team Botswana in Brazzaville, saying for him there was more to be done because it was always a pleasure to represent his country.

He said after Brazzaville, he would meet with his coach to make plans for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics slated for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Despite failing to reach the final stage at the IAAF World Championships, he said he enjoyed the season because he managed to clock 1:42 and finished top three in all his races.
