The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, has said President Muhammadu Buhari would prune the number of ministries from 42 to 19,

It will be recalled that the president had disclosed at the Nigeria House in Cotonou on August 1, while interacting with the Nigerian community in Benin Republic that he planned to slash the number of ministries.

The pruning of Federal ministries was part of the recommendation of the Alhaji Ahmed Joda transition committee.

While speaking to Daily Trust, Shehu restated his boss’s commitment to reducing the ministries. Buhari believes the plan would save governance cost and ensure proper coordination of duties and better service delivery.

Shehu said however, that there would be no job losses in the process of pruning the ministries, departments and parastatals, adding that the process would be a very “painstaking thing” that would be done very carefully.

He said workers need not fear as the Buhari administration would not create unemployment, assuring that the president remained committed to his promise to create jobs.
