A new study has revealed that Jatropha curcas Linn has some properties that could be developed into an effective anti-HIV therapy. The Technical Director of Arston Green Solution Limited, a technology incubation centre in Kano State, Engineer Abba Sani Kurawa, disclosed this while speaking at the University of Ilorin, on a topic “Jatropha Curcas: Beyond Biodiesel Production”.
Kurawa, said Jatropha could be found to be an effective anti-viral with probable entry inhibition activity against potential drug-resistant HIV. In his remarks the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor. AbdulGaniyu Ambali stressed that the potential of the plant, which is resistant to a high degree of aridity, has been explored such that some people assume that Jatropha can only be processed to produce high-quality biodiesel fuel.
As reported by CEOAFRICA source the vice chancellor however submitted that cars powered by Jatropha diesel have travelled thousands of kilometers and several studies have been conducted on how it could generate biodiesel.
