Bauchi- The Deputy Inspector General of police in charge of Training and Development; Salihu Hashimu Argungu has urged police officers to embrace the fast growing trends in Information, Communication and Technology in order to remain relevant with the evolving demands of their profession.

He explained that technological advancements are arguably the most delicate requisites which all men in uniform must be in sync with. By virtue of this, he enjoined them to brace up with modern ways of carrying out their duties in order to be in tandem with global standards of the job.

The DIGP gave the charge yesterday during an interactive session with officers of the Police Commands in the six states of the North- east geo-political zone.

He told the officers to seek for knowledge at all cost pointing out that technological trends are re-shaping the world. Hence, any officer who does not upgrade him or herself will be whittled out of relevance in no time.

“I am here today to encourage you all to change the old ways in which you dispensed your duties. Any hesitance in changing the status quo would make you irrelevant with the current global practices of the job.

It is imperative you all realize that the jet age era is computer driven and if your basic skills are still conventionally driven, how can you meet up with the demands of your profession?

If you are a professor that lacks ICT knowledge, your naivety is barely different from that of an illiterate on the street. The technicalities of certain cases could be so comprehensive to the extent that the average police officer cannot handle them if he or she does not possess ICT skills. You either change the status quo or get relegated from the league of seasoned personnel.”

In his response, the State commissioner of police, Mohammed K Mohammed requested the Deputy Inspector General of police to increase manpower at the Bauchi police command saying that in the first six months, many officers were being transferred from the State.

He commended the Inspector General of police for the improved welfare package and promotion for officers, saying that the gesture has motivated them in carrying out their duties more efficiently.
