Not less than nine people have been feared dead after two boats collided Tuesday night between Kiwa and Remba Islands in Lake Victoria.

One of the boats was said to have been ferrying fishermen from Remba to Sori Market in Migori County.

Reports from local fishermen at Nyandiwa beach in Suba Sub County indicated that nine people had died following the tragedy.

County Police Commander; John Omusanga however said only two children were confirmed as having died during the tragedy
