TRAGEDY: FOUR KILLED, 11 INJURED IN KWARA AUTO-CRASH

FOUR passengers, two males and two females lost their lives on Monday, in a motor accident on the Oke-Onigbin-Omu-Aran Express road in Kwara. Eleven other passengers among them five children and six adults sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to Ajisafe Hospital and Omu-Aran General Hospital.

An eyewitness who spoke with CEOAFRICA said the accident, which also claimed the life of the driver, was caused by burst tyre.According to the eyewitness, who requested anonymity, the tyre of the 18 seater Mazda bus with registration number GBH 48 SA burst few minutes after take-off from a garage in Omu-Aran, en route to Lagos.He said the bus somersaulted several times before landing in the bush.

“I think the driver drove into one of the potholes on the highway and the tyre burst and bus somersaulted several times before landing in the bush,” the source told CEOAFRICA coresspondent.

Mr Akeem Abdulkareem, FRSC Director of Operations in Omu-Aran, who confirmed the accident, told NAN that excessive speeding must have also contributed to the accident.He said he was on his way to Omu-Aran when he stumbled on the accident and quickly mobilised his men to evacuate the victims to the hospital.Abdulkareem said some of the victims, who were critically injured, were receiving treatment at the hospitals.
