The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Edo Sector Command, on Thursday said that it had not approved or endorsed any company for the production or sale of the proposed speed-limiting devices.

Sector Commander, Oluwasusi Familoni, said this during the presentation of the 2014 certificates of compliance to fleet operators in the state that participated in its Road Traffic Safety Scheme (RTSS).

Familoni said it was the responsibility of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to approve companies for the devices.

However, he said that enforcement of the devices would commence with commercial vehicles on inter-state and inter-city routes.

According to him, the RTSS is a road transport regulatory policy that stipulates the minimum safety requirements for fleet operators and other road users. He noted that fleet operators who complied with the scheme were certified as road safety-compliant transport companies.

“It has become important for fleet operators to implement the RTSS as it is meant to ensure safety on the roads as well as to reduce to zero level road crashes and fatalities.

“There has been a rise in road crashes involving haulage operators and about 20 tankers and trailers were involved in road crashes around the state in the last two weeks,” he said.
