
Air Force officials, staff, guests and graduating students at the 23rd annual ceremony.
Air Force Primary School (AFPS) during its week long Silver Jubilee Anniversary, which started on Tuesday, with commissioning of projects and parade by its graduating students.
Day one of the programme featured career talk for the pupils and the Guest Lecturer, Dr Adeyinka Babatunde, described education as a self enlightening process, which is a duty of all.
She charged parents, sponsors and government, as well as stakeholders to work as a team in training wards to have an improved education system in Nigeria.
The project; a geographical garden and sport store were commissioned during its day-two programme by Commander, Nigeria Air Force Detachment, Ibadan, Air Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya.
Olatokunbo described the project as a way of connecting nature to the people for the benefit of humanity. “I believe the earlier the children are introduced to the value of nature, the better.”
The Guest Speaker at the 23rd annual graduation and passing out parade ceremony, which was the day-three of the programme, Dr Mrs Victoria Akintoye, in her speech titled ‘Impacts of social media on child development,’ regarded social media as more deleterious than beneficial.
According to her, social media enhance communication, expand growth of ideas and learning opportunity, but have grossly been misused to breed immorality and erode learning culture.
“Out of love, parents equip children with computers and phones, but fail to monitor what they do with it. For every good thing, there is always the bad side.”
She however advised parents to face reality in building a child that would be a nation builder.
“To the graduating students, I congratulate you all and I urge you to aspire to become great. This is your time, take your responsibility to fulfil and excel.”
Air Commodore Adesanya in his speech commended the school management for organising the event and appreciated Oyo State government alongside Airport authority for their iron-fisted support for the school’s survival.
While congratulating the graduating students, he commended their efforts during their passing out parade.
“This is a laid foundation for other educational pursuit and I believe they are part of our own effort towards economic development,” he said.
The programme featured presentations of cultural dance, drama and press club presentation where achievement made for the past 25 years was outline by the student.
The Head Teacher, Mr Olaniyi Oluwafemi appreciated stakeholders of the school for assistance and contribution rendered towards the progress of the school over the past years.
“I thank Air Force Authority in catering for their personnel and civilian.” I want to specially apeal for them to do more in moving the school to the next level, he concluded.
