Pro Aregbsola Demostators
There was a heavy commotion at Osogbo the capital city of Osun State at early hour today as some group of hoodlums known as 'state boys' clashed and wounded some of the retirees who are protesting for their non-payment of pensions and allowances.
The injured retirees whom were mostly aged people were said to have been injured by the so called state boys conveyed themselves in a bus and were shooting sporadically , throwing stones and bottles to the protesters.
While speaking with one of the protesters Mr. Yemi Lawal blamed the effort of the Nigeria Police force for not carrying out their duties as they were indirectly supporting the state boys. He also lamented on the problems most of them are facing due to non-payment of their pensions by the Osun State Governor Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, as they cannot meet their basic needs.
Also an eyewitness Mr. Ayodeji Olukanni revealed that some of the policemen joined hand in beating the protesters.
“Surprisingly, even the policemen were beating some of our old men and women before the so called state boys came with bus shooting sporadically, throwing bottles and sticks. We saw it, it happened on a good day , policemen were armed but surprisingly the policemen were not doing anything” Ayodeji said.”
"Earlier before the crises , there was a peaceful solidarity demonstration at the Popular Olaiya Junction in Osogbo by some groups and association which includes Osun Progressive Left, Osun Civil Society Coalition, National Association of Osun State Students NAOSS and the Osun Youth Vanguard who carried placards with inscriptions of support to Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola".
While speaking with our correspondence, the Leader of Osun Progressive Left Mr. Wale Adebisi said, the main objective of the protest is to give support to Ogbeni Aregbesola and to properly educate the masses to re-mode the public opinion about the government and about the credibility of the governor.
"We want to properly educate the masses to re-mode the public opinion about the government and about the credibility of Governor Rauf Aregbesola that he has never been anti-workers and we wants to make sure that the credibility of the man is still intact".
“in the history of the state , this is the first time the masses will benefit directly from the government in terms of infrastructure and education development. This is why we want to establish that the Governor Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola did not deliberately owed the workers and he is not the only governor owing his state. Today we want to re-establish his credibility that he has never owed the state workers delibrately.”
Mr. Wale Adebisi denied of any sponsorship by any groups or association.
Meanwhile, when CEOAfrica correspondent, contacted the Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress Osun State chapter Mr. Jacob Adekomi on phone, he said the NLC was not involve in any protest or demonstration as negotiation between the NLC and the State Government of Osun is ongoing.
