The Edo State Police Command has launched a discreet investigation into a viral video capturing an altercation between officers of the Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA) and operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

The video, which circulated widely on social media on Wednesday, September 9, showed some traffic wardens and IRT officers engaged in a heated confrontation, with the operatives seen exchanging words and pulling at each other’s uniforms.

The footage also showed an IRT officer firing his rifle into the air during the confrontation, raising concerns over the circumstances surrounding the incident and the conduct of the personnel involved.

In a statement, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor, had met with representatives of both parties and directed a thorough investigation to determine what led to the altercation.

According to the statement, CP Daaor also ordered that the conduct of the officer seen firing the rifle be subjected to appropriate disciplinary review.

The Command stressed that it would not tolerate acts of indiscipline, unprofessional conduct or abuse of police powers by any of its personnel.

It added that any officer found culpable at the end of the investigation would be appropriately sanctioned in line with extant laws and regulations.

The Police Command further underscored the need for inter-agency collaboration and mutual respect among security and government agencies, noting that effective public safety depends on agencies working together professionally and within the bounds of the law.
