LMC Chairman Shehu Dikko
Globacom title sponsorship rights of the Nigeria Premier League will run out by the end of 2015, the chairman of the League Management Company Shehu Dikko has announced.
The LMC secured a three-year deal with the telecommunications giants after its inauguration in 2012.
Dikko, who took over early in March, disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja with top officials of the LMC and Nigeria Football Federation in attendance while expecting improvement in their good partnership with the telecommunications outfit.
"The LMC is happy with the Globacom sponsorship of the Premier League. It is work in progress," Dikko was quoted by Gongnews.
"The league sponsorship with Glo is ending this year and we shall work out some level of improvements if it must be renewed to favour the league," he said.
He assured his team will do all it takes to get all games televised, but urged stakeholders of the game to intensify their support in raising the standard of the domestic league.
“Everybody has to support us to deliver the brand which the league is turning out to be. That is why we are doing everything possible to ensure that all matches in the league are put on television," he continued.
"It is making the fans to appreciate and love their game. The referees know that at any point there are people watching over them. Beyond these, so many of them get their motivation to be able to do their jobs well.
"We are also trying to create a special squad for the security of the referees. Media comments about the referees hurt the integrity of the game," he said.
