Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has congratulated Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen following his impressive performance in Turkish Süper Lig title-winning celebrations with Galatasaray S.K..
Osimhen scored twice as Galatasaray came from behind to defeat Antalyaspor 4–2 on Saturday, securing the league title with one match remaining in the season.
Reacting in a statement shared via his X account on Monday, Obi praised the Super Eagles forward for his outstanding display and described him as an inspiration to young Nigerians through his commitment, discipline and excellence on the global stage.
“I want to join other fans in congratulating one of Nigeria’s many talented exports, Victor Osimhen, for successfully leading Galatasaray S.K. to the Turkish Süper Lig title with a brilliant performance,” Obi stated.
The former Anambra State governor described Osimhen as a worthy ambassador of Nigeria whose achievements continue to bring pride and international recognition to the country.
Obi also stressed the importance of increased investment in sports development, noting that Osimhen’s success reflects the immense potential among Nigerian youths when given the right support and opportunities.
According to him, Nigeria is blessed with numerous talented individuals “waiting for the right leadership, support and environment to rise, excel and bring glory to the nation.”
He further expressed concern over what he described as the long-standing neglect of the sports sector, adding that strategic investment in sports could create opportunities and positively engage millions of young Nigerians.
Obi concluded by reaffirming his belief in the possibility of a “new Nigeria” where talents across various sectors can thrive, while wishing Osimhen continued success in his career.
