The Potters have tied down the Peter Odemwingie in a 12-month deal and have also included the option of extending the deal by 12 months based on his performance.

His initial 18-month contract at Stoke expired this summer but the club has moved to keep him for another season that would keep him at the Britannia stadium till June 2016.

The former Lokomotive forward had a torrid experience in the previous season after being sidelined for eight months due to a long injury. Odemwingie joined Stoke in January 2014 and has netted five goals in all 23 appearances for the Potters.

Odemwingie returned to action against Sunderland in April and could only manage eight appearances last season.

‘’He suffered an unfortunate injury last season after making a big impression immediately after joining the club,’’ Stoke City Chief Executive Tony Scholes told the club’s website.

"Peter has worked incredibly hard to battle back from this to regain full fitness. He’s a popular figure not just in the dressing room but with club staff and supporters so we are thrilled to keep him on board this season.’’

Having endured a love-lost relationship with West Brom, Odemwingie eventually regained his form and was subsequently recalled to feature for the Super Eagles at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
