70-yr-old Nigerian woman commits suicide, cuts throat with razor

A 70-year-old woman, Mrs Saratu Rahman, also known as Iya Ogbomoso, has killed herself by slashing her throat with a razor blade in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The mother-of-four did not die immediately as her neighbours heard her scream and rushed into her room to behold the gory scene.
Reacting to the tragedy, one of the deceased's neighbours, Yetunde, said when she and other neighbours heard a loud scream from the deceased, they rushed to her room only to meet her in a pool of blood.
According to Yetunde, the deceased was taken to the hospital where she was treated for two days before she eventually gave up the ghost.
She said, “When we got into the room, we saw Mama in a pool of blood. We invited the police. She was rushed to the Lamode Hospital.
The policemen later found the blade that Mama used to cut herself.
According to reports, the 70-year-old made a self-confession audio tape saying, “I used a razor blade to cut my throat. Please allow me to die; I don’t want to live in this world again.”
The suicide attempt and eventual death was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Ajayi Okasanmi.
