Fele, Oyo NURTW boss
The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Oyo State, Alhaji Taofeek Oyerinde, popularly referred to as Fele, has reacted to the claims by motorists in the state.
The union drivers had earlier on Friday, at the secretariat, Agodi, protested over the multiple payments for tickets imposed on them by the union.
While reacting to the protest, the union chairman described the act as uncalled for and a means of constituting nuisance in the environment.
"Those people are touts; garage leaders have met with us and pleaded on the issue of ticket, but those that you see shouting up and down are touts," Oyerinde said.
He attributed the upsurge of the riot to the union's effort in banning the use of "Micra" (a small car) as a commercial vehicle.
"There has been a lot of cases on kidnap and kidnappers mostly making use of Micra to perform their evil acts in the town. So, when the touts heard about our plans, they decided to protest and that's it and nothing more," Fele said.
He urged Ibadan residents to be vigilant and watch out for cars with green and white lines before boarding vehicles.
