
The Kwara State House of Assembly has called on the Federal Government to prioritise the refund of billions of naira spent by the state government on federal roads.
The House made the call this week in its resolution on the damaged portions of Gure-Yashikira road in Baruten Local Government.
A member representing Okuta/Yashikira Constituency, Hon Adamu Usman, had in a motion decried the deplorable condition of some portions of Gure-Yashikira road.
Hon Usman explained that some portions of the road required urgent attention in view of its social and economic importance to the people of the state and the country at large.
Contributing to the motion, a member representing Ilesha/Gwanara Constituency, Hon Umar Gunu, said the economic importance of the road made it necessary for the concerned authority to urgently repair it.
Also speaking, the Deputy Speaker of House, Hon Mathew Okedare of Lanwa/Ejidongari Constituency, blamed the problem on lack of maintenance culture.
He stressed the need for Ministry of Works and Transport and the state Road Maintenance Agency to ensure proper maintenance of the road.
The leader of the House, Hon Hassan Oyeleke of Essa/Shawo/Igboidun Constituency called on the Federal Government to urgently reimburse the state government billions of naira spent on the road.
Hon. Saheed Popoola, who represents Ojomu/Balogun Constituency, urged the works ministry to urgently repair the damaged portions with a view to facilitating the state government's reimbursement.
The Kwar House of Assembly, therefore, called on the state Road Maintenance Agency to immediately move to the site to amend the damaged portions with a view to alleviating the sufferings of the people.
