The Yobe State Police Command has emphasised its determination to rise up to the surge of uprisings and unrest that has crippled the state in recent years.
The development is coming on the heels of government's directive that the checkpoints on highways be removed. Yobe state has been witnessing an upsurge in criminality especially in the area of terrorism and this has prompted security forces in the state to up their ante in the bid to curb crimes in the state.
The removal of checkpoints has generated so much controversy among locals in the state. While some believe that it would place a gag on the excesses of the uniformed men, others think it would make the average Yobe residents vulnerable to terror attacks which have been one of their greatest undoing.
Yobe State Police Commissioner Marcus Danladi told Governor Ibrahim Gaidam that the police had taken delivery of 35 patrol vehicles which would be judiciously used for the purpose for which they were meant.
While inspecting the vehicles, Governor Geidam lauded the Federal Government for seeing to the security needs of the state. He also noted that the gesture was the first by the central governent ever since the state was besieged by insurgents.
He then urged the security operatives not to relent in their effort to provide adequate security for the state residents who have also approved of the renewed confidence of the security operatives and expressed their willingness to cooperate with them.
