The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) has arraigned one Ahmed Abdu, an officer of the Nigeria Prisons Service, before Hon Justice Abubakar Kutigi of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Apo, Abuja, on a two-count charge bordering on fraud.

According to a statement signed by ICPC spokesperson, Rasheedat Okoduwa, the prosecuting counsel, Ngozi Onwuka of ICPC alleged that the accused person fraudulently requeste the sum of N250, 000 from one Adamu Abubakar to secure him employment with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Investigations by ICPC revealed that Ahmed had also on different occasions received the sum of N250,000 each from five other persons, promising to get them jobs with the Nigerian Immigration Service, Civil Defence or Prisons Service, thereby committing an offence contrary and punishable under Section 10 (a) (ii) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

The accused pleaded not guilty to all the charges. His counsel Albashir Lawal Likko, asked the court to grant his client bail.

Justice Kutigi granted the accused person bail at N200, 000.00 and one surety in like sum who must be a civil servant not below the rank of GL 09.

The matter was then adjourned to May 23, 2015 for commencement of hearing.
