The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Labour Party in conjunction with its national headquarters, Abuja, has expelled five of its former state executive members.
A statement jointly signed by the party’s state chairman, Professor Ekeng Anam-Ndu; and state secretary, Mr. Utip Etiebet; which was endorsed by the party’s National Deputy Chairman, Mr. Calistus Okafor, said the affected persons were investigated and found to be guilty of anti-party activities.
The statement, which was issued in Uyo, on Saturday, also alleged that 11 members were suspended by the party.
It said the affected persons displayed unnecessary impunity and breached the party’s constitution.
“These people are no more our members and they should not be seen as representing the party anywhere. Anyone dealing with them in the name of our party does so at his or her own risk,” the statement read.
The party maintained that it had initiated a process to challenge the outcome of the “fraudulent election of April 11, 2015 at the tribunal.”
According to the party, the decision to suspend and expel some of its erring members was to bring sanity to the party.
Okafor said those expelled from the party were members of the former executive that had been dissolved.
