Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has described his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the August 15 governorship election as a major political battle.

Davido claimed that Adeleke faced the combined opposition of 17 All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and about 50 members of the National Assembly during the election.

Speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Tuesday, the singer said the people of Osun State resisted what he described as intimidation and stood firmly behind the governor.

He said the election was “a war,” adding that Adeleke’s victory demonstrated the will of the people.

“Osun State people stood their ground despite all the intimidation. We fought a battle, in fact, it was a war.

“When you have 17 governors and 50 senators and House of Representatives against one man and he still came out victorious, God is good,” Davido said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner of the election after he defeated the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

Adeleke won in 19 local government areas with 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji secured 444,815 votes across 11 LGAs.

Davido, who is Adeleke’s nephew, had campaigned for the governor ahead of the election.
