Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday met with the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, at the Defence House, Abuja.

Although Atiku said discussions held during the brief meeting were private, he told reporters that the party had the capacity to thrash out issues surrounding the zoning of offices especially at the National Assembly.

When asked why he met with the President-elect, Atiku said, “We just discussed private matters.”

In response to another question as to whether the party has resolved the issue of zoning he said, “That is too early. This is something the leadership and the party are handling. I believe it will be resolved before the House is reconvened (in June).”

The former Vice President expressed confidence that the emergence of Buhari and the APC would bring about the change that Nigerians had been yearning for.

He, however, urged Nigerians to give the in-coming administration time to deal with the issues it would confront.

Atiku said, “Really changes will come, the President-elect has assured Nigerians that, but it will not just come overnight, it has to be gradual. Definitely there will be positive change in that matter but it will be gradual.”

Earlier, in a statement issued by his media office, Atiku had said he was elated at the news of the rescue of the 293 girls and women from the Sambisa Forest by Nigerian troops.

He said it was unacceptable that hundreds of women, girls and boys had been abducted by the Boko Haram sect over the last couple of years.

“While we rejoice in the rescue of the women and girls yesterday (Tuesday), we urge that our military continues steadfastly in the operations until all abducted Nigerians have been rescued and territories recaptured,” Atiku said.

The Turaki Adamawa expressed his unwavering support for the Nigeria’s military in its ongoing mission to restore peace to the country.
