THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West region has said the party will provide credible opposition in the coming political dispensation.

This is just as the party congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan “for doing what no Nigerian leader has ever had the courage to do, by congratulating the winner of the recent election and ensuring peace in Nigeria.”

The zonal publicity secretary of the party, Mr Dare Omotosho, told the Nigerian Tribune that “the people of the region also deserve commendation for standing firm and voting for the PDP, despite all forms of intimidation by the forces holding down the people of the zone.”

Omotosho said President Jonathan had proven that he is “a statesman that has weathered vicious storms, and in all shades and characters, from within and without, and also from a largely unfair criticism by Nigerians.”

According to him, the party had learnt its lessons from the election, saying “we are going to look inwards, restrategise and bounce back stronger and better in the near future.”

The zonal spokesperson said “the PDP has shown the best example with the election and, particularly, President Jonathan has laid a foundation for the sustenance of our democratic gains, and time will prove how much a hero he is in the country.”

He claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC), which defeated his party in the presidential election, “had made bogus and high-sounding promises and Nigerians are waiting and watching beginning from May 29 handover date.”

He said the party had promised to pay unemployed graduates, feed school children and make the naira equivalent to the dollar, among many others, saying “we expect Nigerians to note these and we also expect them not to forget their promises.”

Omotosho said “we promise to remind them of their promises to Nigerians and we will put them on their toes.”
