STEVEN GERRARD said he takes full responsibility for Liverpool’s loss to Manchester United after being sent off in just 41 seconds during Sunday’s English Premier League game against Manchester United.
Gerrard lasted less than a minute after replacing Adam Lallana at half-time. He stamped on Ander Herrera and all but ended hopes of a Liverpool fight back.
And while the Reds skipper was at a loss to explain what was going through his mind at the time of the challenge, he did accept full responsibility for his actions.
He told Sky Sports: “I need to accept it, the decision was right.
“I’ve let down my team-mates and the supporters. I take full responsibility. I’ve been in the game long enough when you do something like that. I take full responsibility.
“I don’t know what caused it. I don’t know. Probably just a reaction to the initial tackle.
“I shouldn’t say more about it really, I’ve just come out here to apologise to the dressing room and supporters.”
