The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South West geo-political zone has said that the coming general election in the country, especially in the South West, will show that the PDP is still in control of politics in the region.
The publicity secretary of PDP in the South West, Mr Dare Omotosho, who stated this while speaking with newsmen in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital, on Tuesday, noted that “the value of misinformation of the people against the true value of noticeable changes brought about by President Goodluck Jonathan to the country and the region, will soon be exposed.”
Omotosho held that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would be shocked when the polls are held and results announced, saying “APC leaders are only deceiving themselves by believing that because only two states in the region are currently under the control of PDP, they are the choice of the people of the region.”
He said: “The position of the few APC people, who are very loud with their propaganda that they are in control of the South-West because they are in government in the region except Ondo and Ekiti states, is false. But as a matter of fact, they are not because the people are with the PDP. Their heart is with the PDP, so let them be deceiving themselves. They claim that they are popular with their propaganda in the South-West, but the people know their rights and have their priorities set, and they know where they are going.”
He noted that the people of the South West were “not people you can take for a ride,” saying “our people know that the APC has no plan for them.”
On the demand by the people of the region that the recommendations of the recent National Conference be implemented, Omotosho said the PDP-led Federal Government would surely do so.”
He said the South-West mooted the idea of the conference, which he described as “a huge success despite reservations and opposition to it by APC leaders.”
He said: “Nigerians did well at the confab, but the APC did not participate and now, they don’t have an answer to it. They did not participate and that is why they have been looking for ways to denigrate the confab and its outcome by saying that the decisions taken there are not implementable, and we ask why?
“We believe that the achievements by the Nigerians that participated in the confab, when implemented, are the only way forward for Nigeria.
The only change Nigeria needs is the restructuring of the country and a change in the constitution and not a change in personality. That is the change Nigerians are yearning for and the conference addressed that; not the cosmetic change that the APC is trumpeting rigorously all over the mass media,” he noted.
Omotosho expressed confidence that President Goodluck Jonathan would defeat the APC presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, in the coming election.
“Elections are not won in the media and through sheer propaganda. President Jonathan has done well in a lot of sectors. Take for instance, education, transport and agriculture, among others.
“Many universities were established by his administration. The revolution in the agriculture sector is unparalleled. Train services restored and roads are being reconstructed across the country. The Lagos-Ibadan expressway is taking a good shape and the opposition party has no answer to that,” he added.
