Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar,
In less than two week to the general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has experienced boost in its membership, as over 120 pro-Atiku Abubakar presidential support groups dump the All Progressives Congress, APC for PDP.
The group under the aegis of the National Transformation Movement of Nigeria, NTMN, in an announcement tagged “Ground breaking and political earthquake of decamping of 120 APC Groups to PDP,’’ listed out the names of the group which comprise of mostly Atiku Support groups.
Meanwhile, the National coordinator of Renaissance for Socio-political Transformation of Nigeria, Peter Ogar who is also one of the decampees, while addressing Journalists on behalf of the groups in Abuja, said their decision to decamp is as a result of the ill treatment of their leader, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar by the opposition.
Ogar said the main reason they have decided to dump the APC is the fact that their leader and role model was unduly denied the mandate to offer himself for service to Nigerians by the APC
“Having understood the event of December 10, 2014, wherein our able leader, the Turakin Adamawa, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was through a gang up denied the chance to have a true option in the forthcoming presidential election, we decided to pitch tent in PDP.
“Accordingly, we had to take time to analyse the inner workings of the current administration under President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and came to the conclusion that outside the Turaki, there is no better candidate within any opposition political party, hence the need for a rethink and strategic political repositioning for the sake of destiny of our great country, Nigeria.
“It is on this premise that we are today announcing our plans to declare in a grand style, the shift in allegiance and support from the old order to a more purposeful and result oriented leadership as a better alternative in the next civilian transition hence our wholehearted declaration of support for President Jonathan in the forthcoming presidential election in the country as we are deeply convinced that he has the expertise, patriotism and national zeal to move the country to the next level.
“We understand and are convinced that it would have been grievous and politically unwise to make our teeming members and supporters to work contrary to this as it would have been a national disaster and a democratic regression in a period when we are supposed to move in our quest for a better Nigeria.”
Among the groups that decamped were Atiku Transformation Movement, Fresh Contact for Turaki 2015, Market women for Atiku Abubakar presidency, Courageous Youth for Turakin Adamawa, South west Advancement For Atiku, Young People in Agric for Atiku, Professionals and Business group for Atiku and many others, including 20 All progressive Congress, APC, Support groups.
The group, during the decamping ceremony today (Tuesday) bestowed an award on President Goodluck Jonathan for the good job he is doing.
