HOODLUMS, suspected to be political thugs, allegedly attacked the convoy of wife of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Hajia Aishat Buhari, in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Monday.
Hajia Buhari, who was in the state for a two-day political outreach, was reportedly attacked at Film House area, along Emir’s road, on her way from Ilorin International Airport at about 1.30 p.m.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that side mirrors of about 10 vehicles in the convoy were damaged by the hoodlums.
Speaking with journalists on the development, the APC chairman in the state, Alhaji Isola Balogun-Fulani, condemned the attack and fingered some chieftains of the opposition party in the state in the attack.
“It will be recalled that the APC has repeatedly reported to the police and other security agencies about the plan by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to cause violence and mayhem before, during and after the forthcoming general election.
“A worrisome incident took place today during the visit of Hajia Aishat Buhari. Her convoy was attacked around a film house on Emir road, Ilorin. About 10 vehicles were vandalised.
“We also have it on good authority that two of the PDP thugs have been apprehended by the police.
“We are using this medium again to call on the police and other security agencies to be at alert and call PDP to order,” he said.
The state Commissioner of Police, Salihu Garba, confirmed the attack on the wife of the APC presidential candidate.
The police boss, however, said the incident was caused by party thugs scrambling to collect money from political dignitaries, adding that only one vehicle was damaged.
